Writers for Recovery is looking to grow and inspire a creative community of individual writers, bloggers, journalers and storytellers with experience of using writing on their own journeys of recovery, while encouraging and giving opportunities to individuals who have never considered writing to begin their own journeys.
WHY WRITE?
Writing is strongly rooted in freedom of self-expression, developing a positive identity, and empowering a healthy mindset through creative thought, processing and imagination. Writing can be as simple as an act of framing thoughts, feelings and emotions at the end of a challenging day through journalling, or the more in-depth method behind storytelling a central character for a screenplay or film production.

THE SCIENCE
Scientific studies and clinical trials have demonstrated positive outcomes for using writing as a therapeutic tool alongside traditional medical treatments, for individuals recovering or seeking to recover from mental health related issues such as trauma, depression, and PTSD. Recognised benefits of writing include greater connectedness, improved cognitive function and memory, better self-awareness, and the ability to hold a safe personal space to express challenging emotions.
