Writers for Recovery

"Growing community and inspiring individuals on journeys of recovery through writing"

All of us face challenges at different stages of our lives. And we all have a story to tell from the frontline of these challenges, from gritty survivor tales of hope and overcoming the odds, to the rise of the underdog story destined for the big screen. Across history, personal writing has long been a creative force for self-expression when seeking recovery in challenging times, while the need for community is more relevant than ever today.

Writers for Recovery believe in connection through words, connection through community, in individual resilience and collective strength found in writing, blogging, journaling, and storytelling.

WHY RECOVERY?

We believe recovery is part of a journey of self-examination, rebuilding, and restoring meaning and purpose in life. Recovery is rediscovering parts of ourselves we lost, sometimes exploring parts of ourselves we have kept hidden. Recovery is an act of rebellion, sometimes a seed for future growth and opportunity. Recovery is overcoming challenges – from mental health, addiction, trauma, grief, and illness – and finding new ways to live. Recovery is found in hope and restoring self belief.

WHY WRITERS FOR RECOVERY?

Writers for Recovery believe in writing as a way of illustrating, being guided, and finding deeper understanding on any such journey to recovery. Writing is about uncovering truths and exploring the authentic self. Writing is a creative impulse designed to embody and facilitate deeper change in our lives. Whether it’s the inner voice of a novel calling, a hungry ghost of a blog in waiting, a borderline obsessive need to journal, or just a burning desire to tell your story – we want to hear from you!

Join our growing community of writers, bloggers, journalers and storytellers seeking a voice and connection through the power of the written word.
